Instructor Biography
 Farbod Yadollahi, born in 1967 in Tehran, is a distinguished Iranian percussionist, renowned for his expertise in the Tombak and other percussion instruments. He studied under two legendary masters, Mohammad Esmaili and Bahman Rajabi, and later went on to design and create the innovative percussion instrument, the “Farodo,” a unique combination of two Udus. Farbod’s deep understanding of rhythm, along with his creative contributions to percussion, has made him a leading figure in the world of Persian music.

Tombak Mastery: From Tradition to Modernity Learn the art of Tombak playing from an expert with decades of experience. Farbod Yadollahi guides students through traditional Tombak techniques and shows how to adapt them to modern music. Through detailed instruction, students will master hand positioning, rhythmic patterns, and expressive dynamics.
The Udu and Farodo: Innovating in Percussion Discover the Udu, and explore Farbod’s own creation, the “Farodo.” This module introduces the Udu as a percussion instrument in Persian music and shows how Farbod’s invention has expanded the boundaries of traditional percussion. Students will learn both traditional Udu techniques and how to integrate the Farodo into contemporary compositions.
Persian Rhythms in Global Music In this final section, students will study the influence of Persian rhythms in global music, drawing from Farbod’s album Nofouz. Through practical examples, students will gain insight into how traditional rhythms can be fused with other musical genres, creating new and exciting rhythmic landscapes.
